Our Mission
In 2003, Catherine Roberts, the QOVF Founder, created the concepts that underpin the QOVF mission statement: “The mission of Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover veterans and active service members with comforting and healing quilts of Valor.” To date we have awarded more than 375,000 Quilts of Valor.
Quilt of Valor Foundation and Villa Rosa Designs
Quilts of Valor quitters are in constant search for the next interesting quilt pattern to make their next Quilt of Valor. Villa Rosa Designs has supported that quest through their new 12 pack of QOV design cards and for this week only QOVF Members can order 12 pack of QOV design cards at special pre-order price. On Monday, March 25th, everyone will be able to order the 12 pack of QOV design cards on our website at retail value. Villa Rosa Designs has multiple other patterns that quilters can adapt for Quilts of Valor. These patterns can be purchased individually or as a set.
Quilt #1 “Star Rail” is in the Quilts of Valor 12 pack of patterns. Friendship stars and rails make for quick piecing, and the no border design allows for an easy finish. Using only three colors, pieced and quilted by Nancy Cann (Outreach Committee), the quilt makes a pleasing vision any veteran would be happy to receive.
Quilt #2 “Daring Spirit” is also included in the QOV 12 pack. For all of you who have making a panel quilt on your bucket list, this is the one. Four stars and three borders and you have a Quilt of Valor. The stars look challenging to make but are easy to piece as you follow the instructions. The model is pieced by Ginger Fondren, (Outreach Committee) who says, “our veterans love the panel quilts”.
Quilt #3 “Basket Case” is a Villa Rosa design not a part of the QOV group but as you see, easily adaptable to our Quilts of Valor guidelines. In this example, several of the 10” strip blocks were traded out for 10” star blocks all the while maintaining the integrity of the basket weave. Pieced and quilted by Nancy Cann who says she loves to play with adaptable patterns.
These quilts will be awarded to a veteran or service member in a future ceremony this year and marking another milestone of QOVF as we will reach our 400,000 this summer.
Requirements of QOV
To meet these requirements, a quilt must be a minimum of 55”x 65” and a maximum of 72” x 90”. Our Quilts of Valor have size and construction requirements because they are an award. For more details on the requirements of making a quilt of valor click here. Recipients are honored in either private or public ceremonies where their service is celebrated, and their quilt is wrapped around their shoulders. Each quilt will receive a special personalized label for each recipient. The hope is that the Quilt of Valor will bring comfort and healing to veterans and service members touched by war.
