Northeast Nebraska Veterans
Northeast Nebraska Quilts of Valor (Allen, Nebraska) was invited to be recognized on center ice at intermission of a Sioux City Musketeers hockey game on Military Appreciation night. U.S. Army, World War II; U.S. Army, Vietnam War and U.S.M.C., Vietnam War
Father and two sons, Veterans Sgt Albert, U.S. Army, World War II; SPC4 Gary, U.S. Army, Vietnam War; and LCpl Bob, U.S.M.C., Vietnam War, were awarded with family attending by members Janene Westbay and June Wentz of Yakima Quilts of Valor Group, Washington. Veterans Gary and Bob also received Vietnam War 50th Commemorative Pins. The beautiful quilt tops are by Eric Soptich, Linda Thomas, and Karen Dehne Bissell.
U.S Army
A CW4 Apache pilot and instructor with the Army. With deployments to Somalia, Hurricane Andrew and Iraq twice. He enlisted in 1990 and retired in 2013. His award was presented by the DAR from Wolfboro New Hampshire.
SGT (Ret) Mitch, United States Army
SGT (Ret) Mitch joined the United States Army in 2001 and retired in 2014 serving his country with Valor. Yakima Quilts of Valor Group awarded his Quilt of Valor at the 2022 “Stand Down” Veterans Benefit Fair at the Sundome.
Gary W., United States Navy
The last day of Piece Works Quilt Shop QOV Retreat in Winterset, honored Gary W., a military service of the United States Navy in 1961. Gary’s neighbor, volunteer Lori Clark, videoed the award ceremony for his son and family. Gary’s quilt was pieced by Jeri Beem, (the blocks were made by volunteer Lisa Samuelson of West Des Moines) quilted by volunteer Marlene Mullin of Creston and bound by volunteer Ashley Haines of Winterset.
Flight Officer Walter, U.S. Army Air Corps
Flight Officer Walter served his country 1940-1945 in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was awarded privately by member Shirleen, of Washington’s Yakima Quilt of Valor Group, and his daughters. This beautiful quilt was donated to Yakima Quilts of Valor Group. Pieced and bound by Anne of Burien, Washington. Quilted by Jeri of San Jacinto, California.
Major Jimmy, US Army and CPL Ruben, U.S.M.C.
Major Jimmy enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1954 and served his country during the Vietnam War in infantry and as a pilot until he retired in 1974. CPL Ruben served his country in the U.S.M.C. from 1968-1970 in security in Vietnam. Both were pinned with the Vietnam War 50th Commemorative Pin by Vietnam Veteran SSGT Huskey at the American Legion Post 36 in Yakima, Washington.

SGT Mike, U.S.M.C., 1984-1988, was awarded his Quilt of Valor by Washington’s Yakima Quilts of Valor Group
SPC5 Al served his country in Vietnam
SPC5 Al served his country in Vietnam. His wife helped to wrap her husband in his Quilt of Valor. Veteran Al was awarded his Quilt of Valor at home.
SPC4 Veteran Rosemary
SPC4 Veteran Rosemary, U.S. Army, Personnel Specialist. She was pinned with the 50th Commemorative Vietnam War Service pin. Thank you for your sacrifices and service to our country. We enjoyed looking at your military photo memorabilia album and listening to your stories. This beautiful quilt was pieced by Mary Bennett, quilted by Tina Bolin , and bound by Shirleen.
SGT Donald
SGT Donald was awarded his Quilt of Valor on May 21, 2022 by his Aunt Tereica, a member of Yakima Quilts of Valor Group, Yakima, Washington. SGT Donald, thank you and your family for your sacrifices and your service to our country.
20 year Veteran of the United States Navy
The quilt design is titled, “The Final 13” and is in commemoration of the end of the Afghanistan War. The design includes 13 stars representing the service persons killed and is bordered by a pattern representing the aircraft used in the evacuation. The quilt was completed in June 2022 and presented to a 20 year Veteran of the United States Navy.
Korean Conflict
1SG George served his country two years in the Korean Conflict. 1SG George was awarded his quilt on August 7, 2022 with his family and friends attending. Awarded by Washington’s Yakima Quilts of Valor member, Larry Wilhelm.

Korean Conflict Veteran Sgt. Leonard was awarded his QOV by Yakima Quilts of Valor with his family present. Leonard served his country for three years in the U.S.M.C.

3rd Class Petty Officer Stephen served his country three years in the U.S. Navy and Vietnam War. A Vietnam pinning also took place.

George V., US Army
WWII Army Veteran, George V. of Swoyersville, PA. George celebrated his 103rd birthday on September 15. He was awarded his quilt at a small presentation by the Northeast PA Quilts of Valor. He enlisted on February 19, 1942, served as a member of the 167th Infantry 31st Division, and was honorably discharged on December 20, 1945.

Thomas G, “This is for him…”
Thomas G., USAF Ret, who served as a fighter pilot in Vietnam, said he was accepting the quilt in honor of his best friend, Capt. John Bush. Capt. Bush was shot down in Vietnam and is still considered Missing In Action. “For those of you who know me, I’m normally not at a loss for words, but not today,” Gates said. “The true heroes are the 56,000 or so who didn’t make it. The rest of us were lucky. That was a very sad day for me and this is for him.”
