I am a retired music teacher from the great state of New Jersey originally. I moved to Pennsylvania two years ago with my husband, Warren and our sheltie, Koka. We live in Columbia/Montour County (central PA). I also serve a church as organist in Danville, PA.
My interest in quilting goes back to the late 1980’s and I’ve enjoyed the process of creativity, sharing many of my quilts with family and friends. I became interested in the QOVF several years ago while still living in New Jersey and helped provide my assistance at preparing quilts for the foundation through various quilting groups. When I moved to Pennsylvania, I joined several quilting guilds in the county and asked members of each guild to help me by making the JUST ONE STAR block. I was surprised that many offered so many more JUST ONE STAR blocks enough to make about ten quilts.
I read an article about a gentleman from another town in the county who served in WWII. His story catapulted my efforts to see to it that he be recognized by the QOVF with a quilt that I had made. I don’t know this gentleman or his family, but I am thankful for his story, his service and his sacrifice. To prepare a quilt to commemorate this is an honor that he and his family will enjoy for years to come. So this is how I decided to put my talents. My way of paying it forward to those who have served our nation for the freedoms which we so often take for granted.
I hope that my story inspires others to offer their time and talents to a cause that is so very important.
