I joined Quilts of Valor in 2014. My father was in WWII as a Naval tail gunner. My sons started out in the ROTC Air Force. My oldest son is a pilot and has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. He was among the pilots who rescued people from Afghanistan when that country fell. His younger brother joined the Air Force also and was trained in Avionics. He was stationed in Dover Delaware for his 6 years of service, where he focused on the electronics of planes. He transferred to the National Guard where he ensures that our military planes are safe to fly out of Charlotte, North Carolina. My husband and I are so proud of them. My relationship with the military has been strong.
I was part of the initial group that formed Creative Piecers in Concord, North Carolina. I love the social aspect of working with a group of dedicated women. I also love that we bring healing and peace to those who receive our quilts. I am committed to seeing that all nominated Veterans receive the quilts they deserve. In my working life, I was in public school education. I was a teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Assistant Superintendent Cabarrus County schools.
