QOVF’s Celebration of our Nation’s 250th Birthday!

by | Jul 1, 2025 | QOVF In The News

The Quilts of Valor Foundation is all about expressing gratitude to our veterans and active duty military members for their service to our nation. As you might know by now, 2026 marks the 250th Birthday of the United States of America, better known as our Semiquincentennial (or as we’ve been calling it the “SQ-Centennial). In gratitude to you, our members, for your dedication in fulfilling our QOVF mission and in cooperation with Northcott Fabrics, the Board of Directors will be sending all of our group leaders (who are up to date in September, 2025) a patriotic quilt panel commemorating this historic American milestone.

As early as the French and Indian War 1754-1763 to today, American veterans and service members have fought for our nation’s security, thus enabling this celebration of two and a half centuries of freedom. How fitting that our birthday gift to you will be incorporated in a Quilt of Valor to honor that service!

Each QOVF Group Leader will be receiving a QOVF panel this fall. Also, additional panels will ONLY be available for order through the Quilts of Valor Foundation Store in the fall. In anticipation of SQ-Centennial quilt awards beginning in January, 2026, we are also sharing quilt design options compliments of Nancy Cann, Group Leader of QOV of Central Kentucky and annual National Block Coordinator, and Robin Koehler, QOVF Board Member. These great patterns will inspire your quiltmaking choices.

The SQ-Centennial Committee began meeting in January. Anticipate more exciting announcements as QOVF celebrates this historic American birthday. In keeping with our Foundation’s emphasis on expressing gratitude, we need to thank a very generous member of the QOVF Board of Directors for underwriting the expense of the design and initial purchase of 1,000 yards of 250th/QOVF fabric. Also, Northcott Fabrics has always had our QOVF’s best interest in mind. Their enthusiasm and cooperation designing this panel and coordinating fabrics will inspire some incredible celebratory quilts in 2026. Lastly, QOVs of Central Kentucky under the guidance of Nancy Cann volunteered to cut and mail panels to over 700 QOVF groups. We are most appreciative of their time and efforts.

Stay tuned for additional announcements as America 250 and QOVF’s participation in making quilt history gets underway. We hope 2026 will be filled with Award ceremonies wrapping our nation’s veterans and military with these unique quilts in commemoration of America’s 250th Birthday.

Please direct any questions to America250@qovf.org and someone from the committee with respond to you.

Thank you for all you do for QOVF,
