Sandra-Lynn White

State Coordinator

I am proud to say that I am the granddaughter, niece, and mother of a veteran. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of volunteering with veterans through various organizations to support and honor those who have served. I’m married to my wonderful husband, and together we have three children and four grandchildren, who bring us immeasurable joy. My love for sewing began when I was 21 years old, my very first project was my wedding dress. From there, I went on to create many boutique-style dresses for my daughter and, more recently, for my two granddaughters.

It wasn’t until 10 years ago, when I became disabled, that my mother-in-law introduced me to the art of quilting. I quickly became captivated by the block and palette designing process and the joy of piecing together intricate patterns. There’s something incredibly satisfying about watching hundreds of little pieces come together to form a quilt top, each one telling its own story.

My journey with Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF) started when my younger son went to Boot Camp. I was making quilt blocks for my son’s quilt, to keep my mind off his absence. I brought them to my Blue Star Mothers group, and they encouraged me to get involved with QOVF. They saw the passion I had for creating quilts and suggested I share that by becoming the State Coordinator. In 2019, I was honored to become the first State Coordinator for Rhode Island, a role that has allowed me to continue my work with QOVF and give back to our heroes in a meaningful way.

Thank you for allowing me to share my journey with you, and for the opportunity to support and celebrate the incredible men and women who have served our country through the Quilts of Valor Foundation.
